The British High Commissioner to India, Sir Dominic Asquith, launched the Responsible Migration project at the Orient Craft factory in Ranchi on August 20, 2019. The project was implemented by India partners- Partnering Hope into Action (PHIA) Foundation and Change Alliance which is jointly funded by the UK Government and Marks & Spencer.

Sir Dominic Asquith, High Commissioner to India, said that he was delighted to launch this project alongside well-known British brand Marks & Spencer. He said that initiatives like this helped to promote responsible employment practices and cleaner supply chains. He also said that the UK and India were working together, as a global force for good, to build a future where forced labour and exploitation would be truly a thing of the past.

Nidhi Dua, Head of India Region, Marks & Spencer, said that M&S was the first brand under the initiative to source garments from Jharkhand thereby generating employment for the state and creating a positive impact on the lives of workers and their families.

Anand Kumar Bolimera, CEO, Change Alliance affirmed Change Alliance’s commitment to empower the most marginalised and vulnerable groups of the society, and to contribute to reducing inequalities and economic deprivation through informed and aware workforce on their security, safety, rights and entitlements.
