The policy advocacy was organised by Change Alliance, Phia Foundation and AIDER with the objective of promoting responsible migration in garment supply chain in both domestic and export markets having participation from government officials, bilateral organisations like British High Commission, International Labour Organisation (ILO), civil society organisations, business representatives within the garment supply chain including both leading apparel brands and garment manufacturing suppliers.
The event was graced by honourable Cabinet Minister, Mr. Sunil Bharala Uttar Pradesh Chairman, labour welfare Council and Mr R. K. Gaur, a former OSD Labour ministry, Government of Delhi, India. This policy advocacy workshop stressed on the government policies to embrace human rights approach for migrant workers and further stated that it was the international legal obligation of countries of destination, origin and transit to protect the human rights of the migrants on their territory and business too, as employers and recruiters both. The workshop encouraged business representatives to adopt the guidelines concerning labour mechanism and be open to voices of workers in building long term sustainability of supply chain and add to brand value.
